Leadership Petaluma offers an opportunity to invest, in the most direct way possible, in the future of the community. Through this program, potential leaders are exposed to a range of ideas and experiences that will best prepare them to guide Petaluma toward achieving its highest potential.
Leadership Petaluma provides a continuing resource of leaders by strengthening those qualities essential to all men and women who wish to serve effectively: knowledge of community, individual leadership, and civic responsibility. In the course of the program, members will develop the skills needed to participate in the processes that form the foundation of civic leadership: coalition building, significant dialog, creative problem solving, and consensus building.
Leadership Petaluma promotes diversity and expands awareness by recruiting candidates from all sectors of the community: business, public agencies, nonprofit, education and the professions. Each applicant, if accepted, commits to an attendance of two years in the program. The first year, the applicant attends the monthly all day sessions, which present varied approaches to the issues facing every community.
Group members will share their ideas and learn from each other's experiences, as well as participate in exercises, field trips, and presentations by local leaders. |

During the second year, the graduate may be called upon to help as a day chair to plan and/or facilitate a session or serve on a committee. Attendance of all sessions is the foundation of the program. Participants who miss more than two sessions will be unable to graduate.
The cost of the program is $700. At least $100 of the tuition must be paid by the applicant. The remainder may be paid by the sponsoring company or agency. Scholarships will be available. Potential applicants may receive additional information and an application form by filling out the online form, or by calling 762-2785.
